Dr. Lyon's Historic House

The Norton County Community Foundation accepted the donation of the Dr. Lyon's Historic House from Roger and Michael Moffet in April. This is one of only two properties in Norton County listed on the National Historic Register. The goal of the project is to save this important piece of our community's history by renovating the house into commercial space for a small shop such as a bed and breakfast, spa or wedding boutique.

Norton County Business and Visitor Center Update

We submitted another grant to fund the interior renovations to the Norton County Business and Visitor Center. The Norton County Community Foundation agreed to match the $25,000 grant, if funded. This $50,000 is expected to cover the cost of materials and we plan to complete the project with volunteer labor. The grant award will be announced on June 30,2009.

Update on the Heaton Building Project

After hours of volunteer work, the basement of the former Sewing Box portion of the Heaton Building is nearly clean. The progress is very impressive for those of you who may have seen the building before the cleanup began.

Yet,there remains much work to be done upstairs and in the basement of the former K&S Center Cafe portion of the building.

Thanks to the generousity of the Norton County Community Foundation, Mid-Continental Restoration is repointing the brick on the Heaton building, bringing it back to its original splendor. Please stop by to see the progress if you have time.

Heaton Building Cleanup

Everyone is invited to help clean the upstairs of the Heaton Building--formerly the Sewing Box--on Saturday, March 28 beginning at 9:00 am. Please meet at the southeast door of the building immediately south of Whitney Law Office.

We have made much progress in the past two workdays, three dump trucks worth. This Saturday, we will need people to carry construction demolition materials and other rubbish to the dump trucks and others to sweep and rearrange the items that may have worth. There are dust masks and gloves available. We will also need additional brooms and shovels.
